Choosing the Right Pump for Wastewater Lift Stations

Lift stations move wastewater from low to high elevation, and the pumps inside them live a hard life. Getting the specification right up front saves years of maintenance headaches.
Start with solids handling. Municipal wastewater carries rags, wipes, and grit, so a pump's ability to pass or grind solids is often more important than raw efficiency. Grinder and non-clog submersible designs are common choices.
Next, look at the duty cycle. A pump that starts and stops dozens of times per hour needs a motor and controls rated for that frequency. Pair the pump with level controls and, where possible, a variable-frequency drive to smooth out demand.
Finally, plan for redundancy. Most lift stations run duplex (two-pump) configurations so service never stops when one unit is pulled for maintenance. When in doubt, our team can help you size a station end to end.
